Our Carbon Footprint

Working To Reduce Our Carbon Footprint

As well as helping our customers to achieve their objectives, we have a clear understanding of the importance that our own carbon footprint represents.

A forum of representatives from all parts of the Group is driving this sustainability plan.

We’re investigating putting solar panels on our facilities, they’re already on our new building in Lisburn. This mix of both owned and leased premises affords us the opportunity to generate a worthwhile proportion of our requirements.

Battery storage opportunities are also being investigated for any installations that we complete. This would support not only the consumption of energy for those buildings but also potentially the charging of our electric trucks on site before they go out on Short-Term Hire.

We’re investigating EV charging points at sites that have the capacity to make it a practical thing to offer.

Our company vehicle fleet (cars) is being converted to full electric or hybrid vehicles. We are currently at 84% (electric and hybrid combined) and all remaining diesel vehicles are due to be purged from the fleet within 2 years. We have some limited numbers of electric vans in our engineer fleet for users whose routine mileage pattern supports that solution.

We have switched to energy providers who supply electricity generated from renewable sources.

Our delivery vehicle fleet has been reviewed and by switching brands to a different manufacturer, based on our 20 tractor units travelling circa 90,000km per annum, we will see a reduction of 10,841kg per vehicle per year, multiplied by 20 trucks that equates to a reduction in emissions of 217,000kg per year.

Supplier partners are able to support our own objectives, whether that’s the end-of-life disposal of components or oils, or the commitment to deliveries that generate minimal packaging waste. Everything down to the recycling of toner cartridges from office printers and the return of worn-out branded clothing to our workwear provider has been scrutinised.

Everyone at Briggs Group recognises that there isn’t a quick fix to the environmental challenges that we all face, which is why this activity must be a long-term commitment that continues to evolve.

We are determined to introduce a greener way of working to our industry and we hope that this strategy can be the start of a wider movement that innovates and improves the collective response to these challenges.
